Amen Dilmohamed (Academic Head of Public Health at the University of Wolverhampton) has been visiting Bangladesh to continue working on her Women’s Health project ‘Baby&Me’.
AL-Nisa Foundation, was founded in 2015 by her is an NGO (Non-Governmental Organisation) delivering projects in the UK (United Kingdom) and internationally.
The ‘Baby&Me’ project is active in the Habiganj district of Bangladesh, assisting local midwives to minimize pregnancy complications through Health Promotion and safe delivery practices.
This single government clinic delivers midwifery services to over twenty villages, having a target population of 2,000 plus women of reproductive age, within an area of 60 sq. kilometres, with minimal transport facilities.
Shahida Hasan (Midwife) reports the work is challenging! We have limited resources on the ground i.e. two midwives to cover a significant area currently we have no transportation and frequently have to pay for ourselves and those patients who cannot afford travel costs; from our own pockets. We feel duty bound to visit these patients who are at high risk of obstetric complications especially during late night deliveries. If we were able to provide timely intervention this would reduce the risk of maternal and child mortality”.
Amena, confirms that the clinic is in dire need of emergency obstetric equipment and postnatal delivery essentials. The AL-Nisa Foundation continues to raise funds to purchase an ambulance and essential equipment’s, recently we have bought a paediatric suction machine to help resuscitate floppy neonates. Fans were bought for the clinic to help with ventilation and high temperatures.
Amena, welcomes donations for what we all hope is a worthy cause.
